Building a Habitation for God
Ottawa Foursquare Community Chapel Sunday, May 29, 2022
From the Garden of Eden, one of God’s fundamental desires was to dwell among His people. This desire was revealed explicitly in Exodus 25 when God said. “…let them build me a tabernacle that I may dwell among them.” Several hundred years later David sets up the “Tabernacle of David.” A little while later Solomon builds the first temple. That temple was destroyed and a new one was built. 400 years later Jesus shows up and John declared, “The Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us. His spiritual name was Emmanuel – God with us. Jesus was the prototype of the human temple. Three and one half years later the Holy Spirit indwells individuals who become living temples and inaugurates the Church of the Living God – the living stones built together a spiritual house. And finally, we discover in the Book of Revelation to complete fulfillment of God’s desire throughout human history. “And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”
